Varsity Award Criteria
 
The following criteria should be used when determining awards for varsity athletes:
 
Baseball              Play in one-fourth of the total games.  Pitchers must start one-fifth of the games or relief in one-fourth of total games.
 
Basketball           Play in 20 quarters.  The coach's discretion will be used for players who play both varsity and reserve.
 
Cheerleaders       Complete the season in good standing fulfilling all obligations required by the cheer constitution.
 
Cross Country     An average of one-half point per regular season meet.  Points may be earned by one of the following: one point by finishing in the top five; one
                          point by finishing ahead of the winning team's fifth runner; three points for finishing in the top one-third of any county, conference, sectional
                          or invitational meet; two points for finishing in the top two-thirds of the above meets; one point for finishing in the bottom one-third of the above meets;
                          and one point for a time of 17:54 or better at Southeastway Park.
 
Football              Play in half of the varsity quarters.  This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the coach for specialists.
 
Golf                    Play in one-half of the varsity meets and have an average score of 47 or better for boys and 57 or better for girls in these meets.
 
Gymnastics        The gymnasts must obtain a 6.5 average and participate in more than one-half of the meets in the same event.
 
Soccer               Participate in 90% of the halves and complete the sport and season in good standing.
 
Softball              Players must participate in one inning for every regular season game.  Managers must have no unexcused absences to a practice or game.
 
Student Trainers Complete the season in good standing with the athletic trainer, fulfilling all obligations as required by the trainer.
 
Swimming          Score 100 points during the season or score in the sectional meet.  Divers must earn 75 or score in the sectional meet.  Any Junior with a best time
                         that would qualify for the top 12 in Sectional will also be considered for a varsity award.
 
Tennis                Play in one-fourth of regular season varsity matches; being on the tournament roster counts as a varsity match.
 
Track                 Score forty percent of the minimum number of possible points in the meets, excluding county, conference and sectional.  In addition, compete in the
                         county and conference meets.
 
Volleyball           Play in one-half of the varsity matches, including the tournaments and be on the sectional roster.
 
Wrestling           Score twenty varsity team points or wrestle in all varsity meets.
